This was designed to represent the call of Jesus to travel true due North to stable, safe and calm waters. Only with the help of Jesus can we navigate rough seas and dangerous rocks to find true salvation on the other side.
This piece was handcrafted from solid 8/4 planks of beautiful Eastern Black Walnut. The main wheel has 12 sections to represent the disciples. Additionally, it also has twelve Big Leaf Maple dowels. 4-1/4” arc face plates give this piece the authenticity of an actual old world Captain's wheel. They are hand carved out of beautiful rare Paradox Walnut. The 6 wheel grips are all hand carved (no lathe work). The back enclosure is solid Alder and hand carved on the front and back. The front is carved with rough waves and coated with an alcohol blended dye and coated with a glaze to expose/accentuate the wood grains as well as looking like water.
The simple hand carved Alder boat is stylized after the Jesus boat at the Sea of Galilee with the rudder pointing true north. Rocks are hand carved from beautiful Maple Burl, 3 on each side to represent 33. The cross is removable and made of Lacewood. The net is also hand tied from leather stitching string. There is a strong copper imbedded hook for hanging with the included heavy artwork hanger.
